Guideline on the Selection of a suitable Trace Gas for Leak Testing according to DIN EN 13185

August 2010, 30 p.

Kategorie: DGZfP-Regelwerke, engl.

In demanding cases, leak tightness testing is performed not with air but with special tracer gases which are specifically detectable and thus permit particularly reliable quantitative statements. Especially significant is the fact that socalled calibration leaks are available for such tracer gases, i.e. standard leaks whose gas flow rate has been calibrated to reflect national standards.

This DGZfP guideline on the selection of a suitable tracer gas for leak tightness testing, supplies the data necessary to answer these questions, for the future reference of equipment manufacturers and all those required to apply the corresponding techniques. An annex explains the contents of DIN EN 1779, which outlines criteria for the selection of a suitable leak testing technique in detailed form and with appropriate diagrams. The user can thus first decide in favour of or against the tracer gas technique before then selecting the suitable tracer gas on the basis of the present guideline.
